Crying is a natural phenomenon for all normal toddlers and they begin this process from the time they are born. A new born baby takes its first intake of breath through a cry. And if the baby doesn’t cry, doctors make it cry by gently pinching or tickling the sole. However, crying can become a reason for concern if it becomes intolerable very often. Then the kids may need special or medical attention.
It is interesting to look into the various reasons for the toddler’s cry. Of-course, nothing can happen with out a reason, and therefore most kids cry to tell you something as they are unable to express fully their problems through words. Their reasons for crying may be simple or serious hence every crying child needs immediate attention. And mostly, it is for your attention that they cry.
It is difficult to identify the exact reasons for a baby’s cry but an awareness of some common possible reasons may help the parents to pin-point the reasons to a certain extent and take remedial measures.
Most of the reasons for crying are quite natural. A hungry and thirsty kid will cry intermittently until his/her hunger or thirst is wetted. Uncomfortable kids after urination or bowel motion will cry until they are cleaned up and dried. Kids like company and if they feel lonely they will cry. They even cry if something in their hands, such as a ball, slips away. A tired baby who is unable to sleep also cries.
Kids react fast to climatic conditions. They feel uncomfortable in hot and cold weather and will cry unless they are made comfortable through proper clothes and ventilation. Tight dresses are unbearable for the kids, especially in the hot seasons, as these do not allow air circulation. More over, the tight fittings, such as the elastic, can cause rashness on the body.
Kids are naturally afraid of the darkness as they can see nothing and therefore feel lonely. Hence, a kid who wakes up in the darkness at night will cry. Too much light is also is uncomfortable to them. Hence, ensure that the room where they sleep has some dim or soothing light. The stings of any insect, such as lice, bugs and mosquitoes, are uncomfortable to the kids and can cause them cry.
Other physiological problems such as breathless due to nasal blocking, phlegm in throat, ear ache, and general body ache due to fever and so on also make the toddlers cry.
