Toddlers and Dangerous Products

Many products are available in the market for toddlers in the name of entertaining or training them. However, on close examination some of these products do more harm than good. Baby walkers are an example. Although baby walkers help the child to learn walking, these are too mobile and if unaccompanied by elders can make the child move too fast and cause a fall or crash against walls other hard objects. The children may climb on top of these to reach something overhead which may fall on them and cause injuries. That is why the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RSPA) has warned against the use of baby walkers.

RSPA has put out warnings against the use of the following products as well. They have warned that baby bath seats are not really safe as the manufacturers would want you to believe. Toddlers have minimum balance and, if left alone, they can tumble headlong into the water and may not be able to right themselves and get out of the water. Hence, even a little amount of water can drown a child. There is a danger that the parents will leave the child alone in the bath seats believing the claims of the manufacturers. In fact parents should never leave their little children alone near water however less the amount of water is.

Another dangerous product is table mounted chair. If these are attached to strong and soft topped tables, then it is quite safe. However, parents may fix these chairs naively on unsuitable tables such as knock down light weight or glass topped tables, making the whole exercise very dangerous.

Moreover, all unbranded products from little known stores can prove unsafe for the children. Whatever products you use for the child, whether it is a gift or bought from a store, make sure that these are of good quality, undamaged and 100 per cent safe for your child.

Toys and puppets with loose or removable parts or pellets are also dangerous. The toddlers can remove these parts and swallow them without you knowing, causing the danger of choking or poisoning. Toys with sharp edged edges or corners can also hurt your child badly. Toys with dangling chords or rubber bands have the potential hazard of strangling your child. Hence, make sure that most of the products you buy for your kids or toddlers have the approval of the RSPA, for 100 per cent safety.
