The key to proper clothing of toddlers is to choose clothes that suit the weather. The clothes should provide enough warmth and protection in any climate or weather conditions. This being made sure, then choose clothes that are made of skin friendly material and properly fitting, not too tight or too loose. The materials should not be allergic to the skin and the fitting should be such that it allows easy movement.
Scanty clothing in any weather is hazardous to toddler health. The clothes should give enough warmth so that the kids will be protected from any change in the weather such as dampness, draught, or humidity. Caught in such fickle weather, the kids could be affected by the sudden chill and may fall prey to weather related diseases such as croup, infection of the lungs or air passages.
Too warm clothing also is unhealthy. Too much warmth can give rise to the same type of illnesses as caused by exposure to too much cold. A kid used to too much warmth will develop a weakness against even ordinary type cold weather. This weakness will make him/her vulnerable to even normal weather conditions and easily fall prey to the same diseases caused by exposure to extreme cold. Hence, the clothes worn should be just enough to protect the kid from hostile weather conditions.
Therefore, the clothing should be dictated by the weather conditions. Make it a point to put on enough warm clothes at the early sign of winter, and continue using them for a few more weeks after winter. The dampness and chill during the early and late winter are very tricky, and many kids are affected by congestive and inflammatory disorders during these periods due to inadequate clothing.
The most skin friendly clothe material for toddler is flannel. Hence, these should be worn next to the skin especially during autumn. Fine fleecy hosiery is also easy on the skin. These, and flannel, are tender and warm, and also allows the sweat to evaporate. Cotton materials could be substituted for flannel during summer. What ever the material, make sure that these are properly fitting, skin friendly, and above all suitable to the weather.
