Signs of Disease in Toddler Sleep and Stool

A healthy toddler often enjoys a sound sleep and nap, and wakes up refreshed. They fall asleep almost immediately when put to bed. On the contrary, at the onset of a health disorder, the sleep becomes disturbed, and they are even reluctant to go to bed. They take time to sleep and wake up soon after. They again take time to sleep and wake up after a restless sleep.

Even when asleep their face will reflect signs of any pain. If there is pain, there will be a lot of startling and restlessness. Teeth grinding and contraction of eyebrows is an indication of some problems around the head. Or, if the gums or teeth are visible through drawn up lips, the pain is possibly due to some bowel disorder.

The beginning of irregular bowel movements is an indication of the onset of a possible disorder of the stomach. Keep a check on the color, state or condition of stool and the manner in which it is expelled. The stool will be probably greenish, or darkish, smelly and loose like curd. All together, the stool will appear quite different from the usual state.

A healthy kid discharges its stool smoothly, as if squeezed out. Where as, the manner of discharge deviates when there is a threat of disease. The stool is spurted with force as if the body wants to get rid of it at once. This is an indication of the body’s reaction against something wrong. Also, maintain a tally on the number of times the kid passes stool in a day. Any deviation in the number of times, either more or less from the usual habit, is an indication of bowel disorder.
