Parents need to take special care to choose suitable beddings for toddlers to ensure their complete safety and comforts. It must be neither too hard nor too soft. If the beds are too soft it could hamper the breathing and cause suffocation and even death. Sudden death of infants in the past termed Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) was considered due to soft beds as these beds cover the infant’s nose and mouth. The most suitable bedding material is cotton which is cool as well as absorbent.
It should be also noted that the bedding should be suitable to the sleeping equipment such as a crib, cradle or a bassinet. A crib is a small bed with safety bars on all sides. These can be used from infancy to age 2 and so are more economical. A cradle is a low bed that can be rocked. Bassinet is an oblong or round shaped bed for infants with lacey trimmings. Read and follow the instructions that accompany these equipments and make sure that these are safe for the kids.
The bedding materials must fit these equipments properly as per their shapes and sizes so that the kids have space to roll side to side. The bedding must usually consists of a coverlet and not more than two three small or hotdog pillows. The arrangements should ensure that the kid is healthy, warm, comfortable, as well as safe.
