Kids grow very fast physically, mentally, and emotionally. Parents should keep a record of these developments so that these data could be used to assess the kid’s over all health and development. Although, growth development varies from kid to kid, these estimates will help the parents to take remedial measures if they notice a discrepancy in normal growth pattern. It also helps to keep record of the kid’s height and weight.

Kids could be trained to use the potty after age 10 months, but some kids may take some more months before being able to use the potty by them-selves. The toilet seat should not be a common one and should be cleaned before and after use with an antiseptic toilet cleaner.

When small kids, such as babies, are carried from one place to another, make sure that their head is supported well because they have very feeble necks. If kids exhibit extreme distress such as excessive crying, frequent vomiting, loose motion, rigor, breathing obstruction and so forth, should be taken to a competent doctor.

A medicine and first aid box should be kept ready with in hands reach. These should be well supplied with necessary medicines and dressing materials at all times. The child’s medicine box should contain information regarding dose, mode of administration, phone numbers of doctors and other emergency services. In an emergency, rush the kid to the nearest hospital. While traveling, keep the kid in a separate kid’s seat with seat belt. Also, keep in the kid’s pocket an identity card with your phone number and address.

In case of chocking, try to remove the obstruction by the following method. First make the kid lie on the abdomen with the head in a low position. Then press the stomach backward and forward and stroke the upper back. If nothing works, rush the kid to a doctor. In case of poisoning, try to identity the poison and rush the kid to a doctor. In milder cases, inducing vomiting and a cold water sponging are helpful to remove the poison.

Wounds should be cleaned with pure water and soap and tied tightly with a clean clothe or bandage to stop the bleeding. If necessary, consult a doctor. In case of burns, remove the kid immediately from the source of heat, pour clean cold water over the affected parts and cover with a sterile cloth with out removing the burned clothes. Then take the kid immediately to the nearest hospital.

For electric shock, switch off the current immediately. If the breathing has stopped try cardiac massage and mouth to mouth breath. And rush to the hospital immediately. Drowning could be dealt with by keeping the head low and pressing the abdomen gently. This will help to throw out the water. Then do the procedures mentioned for electric shock, if necessary.
