Home schooling refers to a method by which kids of one or two families are taught by the parents or their authorized representatives, qualified relatives or tutors. Although the number of children is not specified, they should not belong to more than two families. Almost all the states in the US have regulations that govern the home schooling system. However, these regulations are different in each state and, therefore, parents should acquaint them-selves with the laws of their home states before starting home schooling.
For example, North Carolina requires parents to file a ‘notice of intent’ before starting home school, maintain a record, and appear for a yearly standardized test. A minimum qualification of high school diploma is required for teaching younger kids.
Supporters of home schooling are all praise for the fun and flexibility it imparts to learning, but the process requires a lot of hard work and responsibility for success. But once on the right track, the learning becomes easy and fun and parents can pride themselves for providing their kids the best form education. Additionally, the system helps to develop a close relationship between the parents and the kids, based on mutual love and respect.
Home schooling is an extension of the kids’ informal learning at home that they usually do before enrolling at a public school. Many kids learn the alphabets, numbers and vocabulary at home with the help of their parents or a family member. In the home schooling system, the kids continue to learn at home instead of going to a public school. Parents are free to choose a curriculum and a teaching style and tailor it in a way that best suits their kids.
A lot of information on home schooling and guidelines for its successful implementation are available on the internet. Parents can also consult families of other home schooling kids or join a support group to know about the methods, advantages and disadvantages of home schooling. These data will enable the parents to get a thorough knowledge of the home schooling system and then decide whether they want to adopt the system or not. The success of home schooling depends on the parents’ conviction and the clarity and sincerity of their purpose.
Home schooling requires extra expenses, and one of the parents need to remain at home instead of going out to work or do a home based business. Hence, parents have to determine whether they can financially afford home schooling. Above all, parents need to be properly educated to teach the kids or appoint a tutor. However, parents can learn more and choose a suitable method and style of teaching through internets and books, which also entails some expenses. Even then, as said before, if properly planned and implemented, home schooling could turn out to be the best available teaching method in the world.
