Healthy menu for young toddlers

Young toddlers of age one to two should have sufficient food and nap to maintain their energy and wellbeing through out the day. These kids develop better attention spans, mental equilibrium, and more adaptability. However, many parents are confused as to the amount and type of food the toddlers should be eating. As per recent studies, they tend to over-feed the kids with any type of food making them obese and vulnerable to health problems.

By nature young toddlers cannot eat as much as adults or almost all type of food. Hence, parents should not force the kids to eat more than they require. Let’s see what should be the normal serving sizes and the proper menu for young toddlers of age one to two at each meal.

If you are serving milk products, keep the following in mind. The quantity of whole milk/soy milk/ rice milk should be around 16- 20 ounce a day. Please remember that four ounces of milk is equivalent to ½ - ¾ ounce of cheese, and 2 ounce of milk is equal to ¼ cup of yogurt.

Now, let us consider fruits and vegetables. These should be in mashed, cubed or pureed form. The serving size should to one to 2 tablespoons at a time, given five or more times a day as necessary.

A regular serving of grain items are good for the kids. These could consists of ½ slice of bread, ¼ cup of dry or cooked cereal, or pasta; ½ tortilla or two to 3 saltine crackers served three or four times a day.

There are also non-diary proteins such as meat, fish, eggs and beans. Serving sizes of one ounce fish, lean beef, pork or chicken; ½ egg, one tablespoon of peanut butter or two to three tablespoons of beans could be given two times per day.
