Unlike very young kids, Toddlers are able to use their feet to walk, run, and jump and they need suitable foot wear comfortable for their movements and also suitable for weather conditions. When toddlers become ready for their first pair shoes, it is often considered a big event. Of all the footwear, choosing the right pair of shoes is more important as it covers the whole feet.
Always take the kid along with you while shopping for shoes. Keep in mind that toddler feet grow very fast, and therefore a new pair of shoes may not last for over a month. Hence, a lot of shoes may need to be purchased with in a span of one year.
It is important to select the right size of shoes for the kid. Let the shop keeper measure the kid’s feet every time you visit the shop.
Usually, the salesman will suggest a pair of shoes one size larger than the feet. Then try on both the shoes to find out if they fit well. Ensure that the shoes have a toe clearance of one cm, not more or less than that. Also, check whether the heels fit comfortably. However, if all other parts are fitting except the heels, then this could be rectified by using heel pads.
Keep a look out for discount or clearance sales where shoes could be got for a bargain. Some outlets such as the Payless Shoe-Source, Kmart and Target usually have discount sales very often. Also, look for some tough sneakers and a pair of shoes with strings for tying. Leather sneakers with stitching last more than vinyl and glued ones. The sneakers could be used for rough use and the kid can practice tying with the stringed shoes. Cheap canvas shoes and Velcro sandals are good for summer outdoor activities.
Also, buy rain and winter boots one or two sizes larger than the feet. These are available only seasonally and if you want bigger ones then you may have to wait till the next season. The boots could be made fitting by using extra socks. Choosing a bigger pair of rain boots is also a good idea because these are usually unavailable in wide sizes.
