Real experiences by a Mom

Field Trips for Home Schooling Toddlers

Most of the subjects taught at home and public schools require related field trips, which enable the students to get real time experience of the subjects that are taught. If the parents, as teachers, feel that a particular subject requires a field trip, go ahead. Invite other kids too, if you are part of a support group. However, you need to plan ahead for the trip.

A field trip is undertaken not simply for fun, but also for study. Hence, you need to take care of many details such as the time and duration, number and age of participants, fees, food, or any other special programs.

If you plan to take your support group along, then the group members need to be informed well in advance. For this, a notice need to be prepared containing all the details of the trip. Also, inform them where to congregate to set out for the trip and also the location or venue where the activities take place.

Arrange proper transport, and the time of beginning the journey so that the participants can reach the location well in advance. Field trip is also a study tour, apart from being great fun. Hence, make sure that the kids carry enough study materials such as note pads, eraser, pencils, sharpeners, and equipments to collect specimens. Allow enough time for the activities so that the children can do their work in a relaxed manner.

Parents, as teachers, need to be well informed of the subjects so that they can answer any questions the toddlers might ask. Also, keep in mind that a field trip is a way of combining learning and pleasure. Hence, don’t let the toddlers feel it as a task imposed on them by their elders. It is a time for parents and kids to enjoy an outing in each others company.
