Activity Schedules and Toddler Naps

Regular naps are important for a toddler’s well being and wholesome behavior. A toddler deprived of sufficient nap will become irritable and troublesome. S/he will get upset very fast and start crying or play temper tantrums without caring for the time or the occasion.

Hence, parents will find themselves at important places or solemn occasions with a wailing kid creating a lot of noise and fuss all around. To avoid such embarrassing situations, parents need to schedule their activities around their toddler’s routine nap time.

Normally, toddlers under 2 years need a minimum of two naps per day, one in the mid morning and another in the mid afternoon. Older toddlers need at least on nap, usually in the mid afternoon. Otherwise, they will become fidgety and restless and start wailing whether it is at a church or a marriage party.

Babies younger than toddlers need more times for napping than toddlers. Infants spend more time to sleep than stay awake. Babies between 6 months and 1 year need at least 3 naps a day. The frequency of nap becomes less and less as they grow older, and by the time they cross the two year mark, they are usually satisfied with one nap of longer duration.

Thus, being sensitive to your kid’s napping needs and re-scheduling your activities accordingly can save you a lot of trouble and embarrassment both outside and inside the house.
